In the Autumn of 2006 we committed ourselves to relocating to the Buffalo area in Western New York from a small town outside Birmingham in the UK. The we’ is my wife and I, and our two children aged 13 and 10. We knew nothing about the area, although a little about living in the US after having lived in Los Angeles in the 1990’s. Our reason for the move was to take up a great job offer at a highly prestigious cancer institute in the city of Buffalo.
Through the institute we were put in touch with Robitaille Realtors, who act as relocation agents for the institute. Coming from the UK we had little knowledge of what sort of house to buy, how the process of house purchase worked or where we wanted to live. To compound this we were keen to try and buy a house to move into immediately around the 1st September 2007. Of course to balance this we were fortunate in a number of ways; the Western NY house market is probably a slowing one compared to the UK and the houses are cheaper. That said the challenges were still at times daunting.
Beyond the initial contacts we worked very closely with Sarah Robitaille and she provided outstanding, professional and reliable advice and service throughout. We worked with her in two concentrated blocks of about 4 days each. She made sure we were maximally effective in each visit. The first visit to help us choose an area to live in, no small challenge during February in the Buffalo area! Ahead of the second visit she worked closely with us to arrange a suitable list of houses to view and guide our decision.
Throughout these processes Sarah was great. She worked with a sensitive, honest and when required, supportive touch. That is, she was sufficiently perceptive to appreciate that although we were naive we were not novices, and helped as appropriate. She made the purchase process relatively painless, and certainly there was nothing more she could have done. Indeed I know she balanced the demands of dealing with us, and no doubt her other clients, with the requirements of her number 1 client, her pre-school daughter. From our perspective the flow of electronic information was seamless and much appreciated (even when she was on holiday in August).
We moved in on a beautiful sunny Friday in early September. It is still (apparently, unseasonably) warm in the Buffalo area, but everyday since then I have felt lucky to be living where I do. One requirement we had was to be about 15 to 20 miles away from the institute so I could cycle in several days a week. As it turns out we are exactly 20 miles away and so far the ride has been superb!

I highly recommend Sarah because she is the best Realtor and first real friend in Buffalo! Sarah is easy to love and knows what will be best for your family. We felt very comfortable and at ease knowing we had Sarah by our side. After a few house showings, we closed on the best house using all of Sarah’s recommendations. We still have not met anyone one with a better story or easier transition than we had. We thank God for having met Sarah and are truly blessed to know her. It wasn’t going to be easy moving to Buffalo from near Philadelphia but Sarah helped us and worked very hard to make everything happen! If you want the best realtor who you can talk, laugh and trust, call Sarah! – Diana
Dear Anne – I wanted to personally thank you for all you did for us in the selling of my mother’s home. From the onset, you gave us a sense that we were in good hands, the hands of a professional that had a clear command and knowledge of the WNY market and the selling process.
The fact that I lived out of town made the efforts that you displayed time and again so remarkable to my brothers and me. Without hesitation, you took the challenges at hand, keeping us informed every step along the way and gave us such peace of mind.
I can’t begin to tell you how grateful and impressed I was with your professionalism and attention to every detail. As I told you, Mike and I have bought six homes and sold five and have never had a Realtor who went above and beyond like you did. I cannot tell you just how grateful I am that Michael Hughes recommended you as our sales professional handling my mother’s estate. There was never a day in this process that I ever felt that we weren’t in the most capable, qualified hands throughout this process. Nothing but praise I have for you Anne, I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for my family and me. Obviously, we would recommend you to anyone buying or selling a home! Thank you again for all your help! – L.F., Ohio
I have successfully worked with Robitaille Relocation & Real Estate, both professionally and personally for over four years. Isabel Robitaille, CEO and real estate broker, introduced a program that offered our UB Alumni, as well as staff and personnel of our Association, a selection of cost saving benefits when either buying or selling a home. The UB Alumni Foundation is pleased to be able to offer The Robitaille Advantage Program which can be viewed on our monthly newsletters. I can attest to the professional and ethical standards that they adhere to and to the success of working with them in any real estate transaction. – J.F., Buffalo
Dear Isabel, Thank you for your kind note. It’s hard to imagine how much more difficult this process would have been had we not come to you for the sale of mom’s home. Your kindness to us and the personal environment you provided went a long way in making the transition that much easier. And yes, Chuck and Zoreeda were the perfect ones to handle the details! Chuck was with us every step of the way, providing guidance and expertise, answering questions, and making himself available to us at any time. We will always have fond memories of him and the way he treated us and especially mom. He started as our agent, and quickly became a friend. If we ever hear of anyone selling their home in Western New York, we’ll send them directly to you! Mom is now moved in with my brother Ralph in Bowie, MD. The move was hard and it will take some time for her to adjust to her new surroundings and new life, but she is one strong lady! We’ve all learned that sometimes doing the right thing is not necessarily the easiest thing. But, she has her Center Ice Package so she can keep up with the Sabres (not sure if that’s a good thing or not this year). Thank you again for your kindness and all you did for the Ellis family! Blessings! – T.S., Virginia
